At the beginning of October, we made our way to Prague ready to celebrate the FUTURES Annual Event at Fotograf Zone. We left the FUTURES Hub in Amsterdam on an overnight train bound for Prague, where the Czech capital greeted us with warm autumn sunlight and even warmer people.

The team of Fotograf Zone hosted this year’s FUTURES Annual Event, a three-day meet-up that brought together nearly 100 artists and 20 curators from across Europe.

On Friday 3 October, we met at the Holešovice Market for the introduction to the Annual Event, followed by the workshops led by Petra Hůlová, on The Meaning of the Title and Annotation, and Peter Watkins & Tereza Zelenková, focused on Constructing Meaning and Disrupting Narrative. The afternoon was dedicated to conversations with leading experts and curators. Later in the evening, Markéta Kinterová and Světlana Malina opened the festival and the exhibitions showcasing the works of FUTURES talents: Metamorphosis, featuring projects by Benedetta Casagrande, Vitalii Halanzha, Ksenia Ivanova, Emilia Martin, Anna Orłowska, Balázs Turós, Viktoriia Tymonova, and Yana Wernicke; and , with works by artists Dev Dhunsi, Sasha Chaika, Ihar Hancharuk, Donja Nasseri, and Sheung Yiu.

Saturday started with the second session of portfolio reviews, followed by workshops by Petra Hůlová, Peter Watkins & Tereza Zelenková and Amak Mahmoodian. The FUTURES members met for the live platform meeting, before moving to another venue for dinner and drinks.

On the final day we sat down to reflect on the three days spent together and to collect feedback, before the final group photo with everyone who attended this year's FUTURES Annual Event.

The theme for the Metamorphosis exhibition was curated by Emese Mucsi (Robert Capa Contemporary Photography Center), Raphaëlle Stopin (Centre Photographique Rouen Normandie), and Světlana Malina (Fotograf Zone), in close collaboration with Angelo Luis Gonzalez and Júlia Gelezova (PhotoIreland / OVER Journal).

The development of the theme and the selection for Ties That Bind exhibition was curated by the institutions Bienal Fotografia do Porto, Fotogalleriet, Fotograf Zone, and Organ Vida Festival.

In Prague, both exhibitions were curated by Světlana Malina.

A special thank you to the team of Fotograf Zone and to everyone who collaborated to bring the Annual Event to life.

FUTURES is co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union. The Swiss program is supported by Pro Helvetia.
