FUTURES and international photo agency Magnum Photos will be partnering for the next three years for the online course FUTURES: Learn with Magnum Photos. Through guest lectures by experts and well-known photographers, the study coaches, supports, and inspires emerging photographers in the FUTURES program.
The classes focus on developing critical thinking and a practical understanding of the professional landscape. Through this knowledge, photographers can strengthen their position in the industry. The curriculum is divided into four modules each year: Ethics, Inspiration, Fundamentals, and Practicality. Subject areas covered range from ethics of representation, methodologies of research, working on long-term projects, the fundamentals of grant applications, and skills for collaborating with galleries and museums.
Experts’ Learning
Guest lectures consist of presentations, case studies, and discussions, and are taught by experts and well-known photographers from the forefront of the industry. In addition, participants will be given access to a private Discord channel which provides space for networking, discussion, and work-sharing.
Online event
To mark the launch of the course, FUTURES and Magnum Photos are hosting a celebratory online event on Tuesday, September 13, 2022. Professional photographer Lua Ribeira will be in attendance as a guest speaker to talk about her experiences working in the field.
The course is organized and facilitated by Bayryam Bayryamali, Coordinator at Magnum Photos, and Sonia Jeunet, Director of Education at Magnum Photos.
