Developed by FUTURES and hosted in collaboration with partner organisations across Europe, the Artistic Residency supports artists in developing a new or ongoing project within a shared research framework.

With artistic process at its core, the programme creates the conditions for artistic research, experimentation, dialogue, and critical reflection. The programme enables artists to develop their projects within distinct cultural contexts through expert guidance, public engagement, and exchange with partner organisations, local communities, and fellow practitioners for the continued development of a project.

The Research Residency responds to a need for dedicated, process-oriented time, combined with the opportunity to engage with Amsterdam's cultural landscape and connect to FUTURES' international network of more than 20 photography institutions across Europe. It offers space to think, research, and develop work, with opportunities for new perspectives, encounters, and connections to inform their practice.

Based at the FUTURES Hub in Amsterdam, the programme offers a private working and living space and a self-directed framework without the pressure of a fixed outcome or presentation, giving residents the conditions to develop their practice on their own terms.
