Through our learning pillar, we create spaces for artists and image-makers to learn, experiment, exchange ideas and develop their practices at different stages of their careers.

Our programmes combine artistic development, critical thinking and professional knowledge through learning, mentoring and exchange with leading practitioners and organisations.

FUTURES residencies create dedicated time and space for research, experimentation and the development of new ideas and practices. Taking place in different European contexts, they bring artists and other creative practitioners into new environments, communities and conversations.

Exhibitions, talks, workshops, open studios and other encounters give artists space to present their work and ideas, meet audiences and engage in wider conversations around photography.

Taking place across the FUTURES community and at major photography events across Europe, these activities bring artists into contact with different cultural and professional contexts, extending the reach and visibility of their practices beyond their immediate surroundings.

Some of these encounters take place at the FUTURES Hub, our headquarters in Amsterdam. Through residencies, open studios and public events, the Hub connects artists with the local cultural scene in the Netherlands while providing a physical point of connection to the wider FUTURES community.

FUTURES publications and editorial projects create space for artists to share their work, ideas and perspectives, while contributing to wider conversations around contemporary photography.

Each year, FUTURES publishes a catalogue presenting the newly nominated artists and all member organisations, alongside a themed publication that brings together work and perspectives around the annual theme.

Alongside these publications, the FUTURES website provides an ongoing space for stories, artist projects and other editorial formats, helping artists and their practices reach new audiences and remain part of an ongoing conversation.
