The Capa Center had planned to select its five Futures talents during its regular yearly Budapest Portfolio Review, as we have in previous cycles, but Covid-19prevented us from organizing the event. Therefore, we decided to put out an open call to find the most talented artists.
In addition to the Capa Center curators, we also invited renowned representatives of the Hungarian photography scene to participate in the selection process. For us, it’s vital that we do not choose the talents alone, but that we open ourselves to the professional community in order to gain from the flexibility and different approaches that independent professionals and commercial galleries have to offer.
Futures Open Call jury members in 2021: Szabolcs Barakonyi, photographer, Csizek Gabriella, curator of the Capa Center, Judit Gellér, curator of the Capa Center, Luca Gőbölyös DLA habil, artist, art professor, Emese Mucsi, curator of the Capa Centre, Kata Oltai, curator, art historian, Opitz Tomas, director of TOBE Gallery, István Virágvölgyi, curator of the Capa Center.
The eight experts selected the five Futures talents from 35 applicants. These artists will be showcased at Central and Eastern Europe’s leading international art fair, Art Market Budapest, in October 2021, along with other Futures talents selected by platform members.
