Mahalia taje Giotto and Zoé Elia Menthonnex have been selected by Centre de la photographie Genève (CPG) for their experimental and boundaries-pushing photography-based projects. Both artists harness photography, and more generally image-making, equally as a means of expression of their own obsessions, and as a tool in their quests for meaning, including about their own identities and thought processes. Their respective practices often rely on a deep personal involvement, as well as certain forms of vulnerability and personal disclosure in each of their projects, which are typically carried out over a long period of time. Their distinct visual languages regularly include text and various processes of image accumulation and alteration, resulting in powerful, high-octane, but also surprisingly tender visual narratives, which can be reconfigured in myriad ways for site-specific installations. While both Mahalia taje Giotto and Zoé Elia Menthonnex have seen their work circulate internationally in recent years, CPG aims with their nomination to FUTURES to bring an increased visibility to their work at the international level, and hopes that new opportunities to develop and circulate their work will arise from their integration in the platform.
