Our events during the COVID-19 pandemic
Every year, Futures organizes and supports a series of events throughout Europe. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, our local activities for the next months are being postponed or adapted to the digital world, following the guidelines by European governments and the WHO.

Visvaldas Morkevicius will present his latest photography project.
“Losing someone is like the sky surrendering a star, a note falling silent in a familiar tune. Everything changes, with memories lingering in the air like echoes in empty rooms. Moments resurface unexpectedly: fragments of laughter, the warmth of a touch, vivid and almost too real to be gone. Moving forward feels strange, like walking on uneven ground, each step shifting what once felt certain. You drift between shadows and light, caught between the past and the future. Something within you subtly rearranges, yet nothing feels completely whole.”
Using photography as a medium, the artist captures the emotional terrain of loss – fragmented memories, fleeting moments, and the interplay of absence and presence – creating visual echoes that explore the fragile balance between holding on and moving forward. Ultimately, the piece becomes a “letter to self of acceptance.”

We're proud to be hosting Pride Photo for a residency at the FUTURES Photography Hub. Join us for the Workshop & Open Studio with DeLovie Kwagala (aka Papa De), our newest resident, who will present their project "ME(MORIES)"
DeLovie Kwagala (aka Papa De) is the first openly non-binary queer photographer from Uganda. An award winning visual artist and film maker, their art is a defiant stance against the colonial gaze, aiming to dismantle stereotypes around beauty, gender identity, and the fetishisation or victimisation of Black and queer bodies. Through self-taught, multi-disciplinary visual storytelling, Papa De documents and archives African queer youth, exploring themes of identity, belonging, migration, displacement, and climate justice.
*ME(MORIES)* re-examines pre-colonial history through the lens of a family archive dating back to the 1970s. Centering on the Gomesi; the iconic traditional dress of Ugandan women from the Buganda Kingdom and beyond, the project explores the garment’s evolution into a definitive symbol of honourable womanhood. - DeLovie Kwagala (aka Papa De)

Workshop description
This hands-on workshop explores collage and graphic intervention as tools for reimagining family archives and positive, personal memory. Drawing on Papa De's artistic practice and recent body of work, participants will experiment with techniques through accessible collage methods. The workshop invites participants to revisit photographs and transform them into new visual narratives, reflecting on moments of connection, belonging, and community.
Materials participants should bring
- Printed family photographs in A4 format that they are comfortable altering
- Any additional printed images, magazines, or ephemera they would like to incorporate (optional)
All other materials will be provided.
