FUTURES started in 2017 as a project by Amsterdam-based Vandejong BV, to raise the visibility of emerging contemporary photographers. The main funding was eventually found in Creative Europe's platform programme. The project developed so positively that in 2022 it was decided to expand activities and set up a non-profit foundation for this purpose.
The foundation will organise exhibitions, lectures and residencies at the FUTURES HUB, its brand-new exhibition venue in Amsterdam. But the foundation also offers a cultural programme at other locations. For instance, it acts as artistic director of the International Photography Festival Turin, which will take place every year in May.
The word FUTURE is central to the programming. Using current themes, the foundation shows works by emerging and more well-known artists. The foundation believes that art, and specifically the imagination of contemporary photographers, contributes to a strong, healthy and liveable society. Their work inspires, stimulates curiosity and provides new perspectives.
